At the University of San Diego, Frize recorded a 6.90 career earned run average with 65 strikeouts across 44.1 innings in three seasons. During the 2024 season, he earned a 2.38 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 18 games and 22.2 innings.

Frize was drafted in the 17th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2024 MLB Draft, but did not sign, returning to San Diego for the 2025 season.
